DubOrSub is an interactive world map that shows whether each country prefers dubbed or subtitled anime. Countries are color-coded: green means subtitles win, orange means dubs win.

How the map is colored

The map combines two data sources. It starts from published research and industry surveys, and adds in the anonymous responses submitted by visitors. Once a country has enough visitor responses, the live data takes over from the research baseline. No personal data is involved. Every response is a country code and a sub/dub preference.

The survey

The survey is completely voluntary and takes about ten seconds. You pick your country (auto-suggested, always changeable), choose if you prefer watching with subs, dubs, or both, and optionally tell us your preferred language. You can browse the map without filling it in.

The aggregated dataset (country-level sub/dub ratios and language breakdowns) is free to use for academic, educational, and creative projects under a CC BY 4.0 licence. That means you can use, share, and build on it freely as long as you credit DubOrSub.com. The data is fully anonymous and contains no personal information.

Scraping is not permitted. Automated collection of data from this site (including its API endpoints) without prior written permission is prohibited. If you need a dataset export, email contact@duborsub.com, we'll send you the data directly so you don't need to scrape.
