Privacy Policy

What we collect

If you choose to fill in our voluntary survey, we store exactly two things: a two-letter country code (e.g. "BE") and your sub/dub preference, optionally with a preferred language name. That is the only data this site collects.

What we do NOT collect

• No raw IP addresses are stored (see "Vote integrity" below)
• No names, email addresses, or accounts
• No device fingerprints or tracking identifiers

How your country is detected

When the survey opens, your browser asks a geolocation service (ipapi.co) for your country. This lookup happens entirely in your browser; the result is used only to pre-fill the country selector, which you can change. The detected country is shown locked, but you can unlock it and pick a different one if the detection is wrong.

Vote integrity

To keep the map honest, each connection can vote once. When you submit a vote, our server computes a one-way cryptographic hash (HMAC-SHA256 with a secret key) of your IP address and stores only that hash and never the IP itself. The hash cannot be reversed to reveal your IP, and we use it for exactly one purpose: rejecting duplicate votes. This processing is based on our legitimate interest in preventing vote manipulation (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). We also apply rate limiting per connection to block automated spam.

Local storage

We use your browser's localStorage to remember two things: whether you have already seen the survey, and your cookie consent choice. This data never leaves your browser and contains no personal information.

How your response is used

Your response (country code and sub/dub preference) is used only to build the public map and anonymous, aggregated statistics shown on this site. Because responses contain no identifying information, they cannot be traced back to you. We do not sell your data and we do not run ads. When you submit a vote you confirm you agree to this use.

Third-party cookies (optional)

If (and only if) you click accept the cookie banner, Google Analytics is loaded for usage statistics, and it then sets its own cookies and collects usage data as described in Google's Privacy Policy. If you decline, no Google scripts are loaded at all. We use no advertising cookies. See our Cookie Policy for details.

Your rights (GDPR)

Because survey responses are anonymous (country code only), they cannot be linked back to you, and there is nothing personal to access, correct, or erase. For consent-based cookies, you can withdraw consent at any time as described in the Cookie Policy.
